There’s No Such Thing As Luck

We’ve all heard it said that, “You can’t control everything that happens in the world.” And while we believe that as a massive effort we can make the world a better place to live, it is still true that you alone cannot control everything that happens out there. What you CAN control are the decisions you make, the choices you choose, the path you travel, and the level of commitment to success in your own world. And just like the law of relativity states: What you think, you become. What you feel, you attract. What you imagine, you create.

There’s no such thing as LUCK. There are a lot of “cause and effects” playing out their duties in the great big universe, most of which are out of your control, and in some cases the odds appear to be in your favor. But if you “press your luck”, don’t do the work, put in the time, treat people right and so on, your “luck” will run out.

So let’s talk about what CAN you control. These are things you have a say over that can improve the quality of your life!

1. Your attitude – Think about how your attitude change will affect your life. Will changing your attitude help you get better grades? Will changing your attitude help you like what you see when you look in the mirror? Will changing your attitude mean a happier more fulfilling family or social life? Will a change in your attitude help you to work harder and get that promotion?

YES. YES YES YES YES YES. We need to shift our mindsets to have a better attitude and understand that “it is what it is, but it becomes what you make it” –  attitude CAN BE everything!

2. How you treat others and yourself – Be kind to yourself you guys. Give yourselves a little grace and room to be imperfect! Just because you don’t like your haircut doesn’t mean you have ugly hair and are stupid for letting it get cut that short! It means you are creative in how to make the best of it! Talk to yourself as you would a friend. And be kind to others. How you talk about our treat someone else says a lot more about you than it does them!

3. How you react and respond to things both pleasant and unpleasant –  Yes, sometimes things just downright SUCK! But we’ll be in the suck for a while until we change our reaction/response! Try to react with a little patience and perspective! How can you change this situation around to make the most of it? Because there is always another way to look at things!

4. Taking responsibility for things both good and bad – Sometimes we just have to admit that we put ourselves in a pickle. We may have said yes to a certain situation or group of people to be around. We may have thought it would get taken care of by someone else and it wasn’t. We have to take responsibility for our part in things not going how we would have wanted. And likewise we can show ourselves some love for taking the steps to put ourselves in the right situation for when things go right!

We love the quote, “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity,” by Seneca. It’s SO true. You don’t get where you want to go by sitting around waiting for something good or exciting to happen. You prepare, make plans, set goals, chase said goals, learn how to learn more, and never quit. You do all these things and then some, and opportunity will seek you out, and you’ll be prepared to take full advantage.

We choose to believe that two of the most important things you can do/be to attract what is misconstrued as good luck is: 1) Do good and 2) Be kind. In all aspects of life, if you are doing good (at your job, in your relationships, giving back, being a good human) and if you try to be as kind as you possibly can, good things will happen. And take the stairs or the metaphorical stairs if you will. Nothing fantastically wonderful ever came from the comfort zones of a lazy man’s load. Do the work. Go the extra smile. Luck will find you…. no doubt.
