Sending Out An SOS
What’s a 4 letter word that’s hard to ask for?
One of the hardest things to do for many people is to ask for help. There are many reasons behind the hesitation, and we want to help you address the reasons that are holding you back from asking for help when you really need. We have personally found that being able to understand that asking for help makes you strong, not weak, is a great way to give you the confidence you need to ask for help when your soul needs saving. If we didn’t have each other, and if we didn’t have the people in our lives who lighten our load or go the extra mile for us, we don’t know where we’d be. But we have learned a few things, and in this episode, we shared them!
Let’s be honest
If you are the type of person who takes pride in doing it all, all by yourself, asking for help likely does not come naturally. But let’s be honest. If you are a person who does it all, you are likely a highly motivated person who will eventually have more on your plate than your plate has room for. (For instance: Cousin eddy at the Vegas buffet) Why is this GOOD?! If you are in the position to ask for help, that is a good thing. That means that you are learning, growing, working hard, and possibly reaching for the STARS! If you are outside of your comfort zone, good for you. But there comes a time when there are no more plates. You run out of dishwasher detergent. And there is an international sell out of paper products everywhere. This is what we like to call: time to ask for help. You can do anything, but not everything. And for sure not anything or everything at the exact same time.
Have you ever been asked for help, been able to oblige, and felt proud? Trusted? Needed? That feels good! Asking for help helps you build a network or a community. It takes a village. It truly does. And if asking for help is hard for you, when you get the confidence to ask for help, you are likely going to hand select the best people for the job! We have the power to appreciate the value of the people we surround ourselves with. Not asking for help inhibits us from making strong connections that will help us to grow… together!
Refusing to ask for help when you need it is refusing someone the chance to be helpful. —Rick Okasek
